Self Stress Test - Answers
- Trouble sleeping is a sign
that you may have too much on your "plate" so to speak. You may need
to re-evaluate your priorities and either eliminate, reduce or change
the thing that's causing such unrest.
If you don't have difficulty sleeping, good for you.
- If you answered: Pray - that's
great. God is the best source of comfort anyone can have. Just be
careful to leave your cares with the Lord and trust that He will take
care of them.
If you answered: Eat a pint of ice cream, my my I
can relate. However, emotional eating never solves anything. If
anything, it just adds to your troubles/worries in the form of "pounds".
If
you answered Exercise, exercise is a great way to relieve frustration
by getting those blood vessels pumping. Be careful not to overdo it
though. You don't want to exercise so much that you exhaust yourself
trying to escape.
- If you replied that your place
of employment is unorganized and chaotic, if changing jobs is not an
option, you may need to carefully prioritize your work, make sure you
take regular breaks and not let anyone else's frustrations become your
own. I realize this is easier said than done but you MUST do it for
your own sanity. Besides, a balanced employee is more productive.
If
you replied that your job is virtually easy then you are blessed along
with very few. Fortunately, I'm there with you. I enjoy my work but
it wasn't always that way.
Lastly, if you replied that your
place of employment is sometimes a little too busy, it's not as bad as
you may think. Most jobs have up and down levels. Just remember to
stay balanced and focus on priorities. Everything can't be done in a
day. There's always tomorrow (unless you die and then it won't matter)
- If you responded that your relationships are enjoyable and peaceful, all I can say is "smooth sailing" and maintain.
If
your relationships are prone to big arguments from time to time, that's
normal, especially in big families. However, when arguments arise I
think it's beneficial to live by what the Bible says: "Never let the
sun go down on your wrath" Enough said.
If you replied that you
fight all the time, this may be difficult but maybe it's time to do
some personal reflection to determine if you are the cause of some of
this friction. If you are positive that you aren't, then perhaps you
may need to respectfully remove yourself from the presence of certain
individuals when you notice tensions arising. You can love your family
and friends without allowing them to pollute your soul.
- If in your spare time you
spend leisure time with friends and/or family, you are making good use
of your time. Time well spent will never be regretted.
If you
have to ask, "Is this question for me ?", you are Waaaaaaay too busy.
Every human being on earth is gifted with the same 24 hours. YOU have
to decide how you will spend that time and since you are not a machine,
you need to take time to unwind and recharge.
If you replied
that you work on unfinished projects, it's great that you are a person
that follows up on responsibilities and likes to tie up loose ends.
BUT, you MUST take time for yourself to relax. Working on projects can
even cause stress if things don't go as planned.
- If when stuck in traffic you:
- reflect on life's
problems - you may be adding stress to your stress. If all times that
you should be able to not think about stressful situations, it should
be while you are in one. Reflecting is good, dwelling is not. Do
something about the problem if you can but don't allow it to rent too
much space in your head.
- get frustrated, beep
your horn, and curse/cuss at "rubber-neckers" - can you say, "Anger
Management". Ok I'm kidding (maybe) but seriously, what good is it
doing you? Make you feel good? Not really. You are still stuck in
traffic and why stress over what you can not change. This, I know is
not an easy thing to learn but it sure does take a load off when you
learn the lesson.
- sit back, relax and listen to music - great that you recognize, "why stress" when you can't change a thing.
- If you exercise
daily, Bravo! You are better than most of us. Staying fit is important.
Just don't overdo it. Take a day or 2 to rest. You are not a
machine and your body needs an opportunity to "heal" itself. I'm not a
fitness guru but I do know that when you work you're in the process of
developing your muscles, little tares take place in the tissues. This
is what causes soreness the following day
Ok, so if you are already
fit and developed, you may not experience soreness but still......take
time to rest.
If you exercise almost never like many, your body is not
in condition and can not easily handle the stress of every day life,
including Dietary Stressors (Read about Oxidative Stress).
If you exercise few times weekly, you have the balance you need to
handle daily stress and give your body the conditioning it needs.
- If you are ever experiencing
feelings of being overwhelmed, it's normal at times.
If you experience
these feelings regularly, it's time to take inventory of your life and
why you feel this way.
If being overwhelmed is a way of life for you,
professional help may be in order. Everyone experiences having too
much on his or her plate at some point in time. How you handle those
feelings is what determines your competency for managing stress
effectively.
- If the people you work with
feel you are easy going, you may need to check that you are not
becoming a door mat for people to walk all over. That can cause
extreme stress if you allow the people you work with to take advantage
of your good nature.
If people you work with find you are hard to get
along with, you may not have a job very long. Being unemployed can be
more stressful than working at a stressful job. Compromise is the
basis of any good relationship, including on the J-O-B.
If your
co-workers perceive you as indecisive, you may not be viewed as
competent. Knowing when to respectfully say no to tasks that are not
within your scope of responsibility will not only help you maintain
your peace but it will also let others know that You know Your
boundaries.
- If the first beverage you
consume in the morning is juice, while juice may have lots of vitamins
in it, it can also be full of sugar which can cause a crash later in
the day.
If your first beverage is coffee because you need it to
function, be careful that you do not make it habitual because when
stressed, coffee can make you more "wired".
If your first beverage of
the day is water, you are consuming the best. Water is a symbol of
life and is actually needed to live (of course if you live in an area
with unsafe water, it's best to have bottled spring water).
If you
don't consume any of these beverages first thing in the morning but
prefer something like soda, please know that you are not being kind to
your body. While it's ok to enjoy an occasional pop, drinking it
regularly robs your body of needed calcium it needs. Studies show that
regularly ingesting carbonated drinks causes calcium depletion. Aint'
No stress like a calcium deficiency !
