It's been a long fast paced day of stress to meet deadlines and juggling multiple responsibilities at the office. Even when your work day has ended, you have the ever consistent job of managing a household...running errands, meal preparations etc. Enough days like this and the result is a stress headache that has been building from the word “go” (the start of each day).
Stress headaches are all too common for a number of reasons that stem from good intentions including:
- Failure to plan your days accordingly
- Taking on too much responsibility and neglecting to delegate when appropriate
- Yo-yo dieting
- Pushing your body and mind beyond their limitations
- Allowing yourself to be consumed with your "to-do" lists
You may have heard the saying, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Nothing rings more true for the events that lead up to a stress headache.
Causing you to lose the ability to concentrate and focus, headaches caused by stress make you less productive in the long run.
Obviously, the best cure for a stress headache would be to prevent it from occurring in the first place. However, such is not the case if you are currently suffering.
Alternative Methods to Cure a Stress Headache
It's common practice to treat headaches with over the counter medications but if you are among the growing village of people who opt for healthier alternatives to relieve pain, you'll be pleased with the methods I'm about to share. The best part is they don't involve any potentially hazardous pharmaceutical drugs.
Mental Imagery
Researchers say that fantasizing about a delicious meal may boost your mood and reduce your stress levels. This in turn will help reduce the intensity of a stress headache.
Consuming H2O
Dehydration is closely associated with fatigue. Therefore, hydrate yourself and attend to the fatigue that is fueling the headache. Drinking one to two cups of distilled water at the onset of pain may prove helpful.
Low Intensity Exercise
For 45 minutes twice per week, exercise. Follow with 15 minutes of rest and relaxation. This method has been shown to significantly reduce the number and severity of migraine headaches a person gets.
An exercise like Yoga provides low impact physical activity to lower your blood pressure, keep you physically fit and reduce your overall stress levels.
Magnet Therapy
When all else provides little to no relief, magnet therapy treatment has been quite effective at providing alternative pain relief. Early doctors during the period of about 1800-1900 prescribed magnets to treat head pain. Russian soldiers used magnets during World War II to alleviate their headaches. Magnetic therapy is currently an accepted form of alternative therapy in about 50 countries including Great Britain, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy and Japan.
You no longer have to subject yourself to harmful medication for pain relief. Combining two or more of the alternative methods mentioned can significantly reduce, prevent or put a cease to stress headaches once and for all. Of course, the best defense is a good offense...Stress Management.
