Jump Start Your Health with Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
by Michelle Howard
Our bodies were created to heal naturally. However, they are struggling
to do so,
being encountered with all of the chemically based and
processed products available
on the market. Essentials oils are age old healers from nature dating back as far as
4500 BC. The use of therapeutic grade essential oils can restore the body naturally,
promote relaxation and treat a variety of ailments. Notice however that I said,
"Therapeutic Grade" essential oils. Not all essential oils are the same. As a matter
of fact, most of the essential oils available on the market are not very pure. In order
for an essential oil to be of therapeutic grade, it must be as close to nature as possible
with minimal processing and certainly no chemical additives. It's important to note that
therapeutic grade essential oils are not diluted. For essential oils to be considered
therapeutic grade,they must come from plants that are properly cultivated and
stringently analyzed in order to preserve the purity, potency and integrity of the oil.
As women, we are faced with all sorts of stressors that bring about illnesses such as
high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, headaches, allergies, inflammation
and the list goes on. We get a headache and we pop Tylenol or Advil. We get the
sniffles and we pop a Sudafed or some other pill. We stress out, and grab a drink.
Ladies, this ought not to be so. Now, I'm not bashing the pharmaceutical companies.
They do what they do and people do need them. Not everyone will take control of their
health and look to nature for healing. I just want people to know that our bodies were
created to be temples and to heal themselves but how can that happen if we are filling
them with chemicals? As women and mother's we also have huge responsibilities that
include but may not be llimited to: raising our children, working, running businesses,
running our households and keeping our husband's happy (that alone can be very
challenging!) Now, this is not to say that men don't experience these conditions and
situations. However, for the purpose of this writing, I'm looking to empower women.
Mother's Day is soon approaching and I think this is an appropriate time for women to
step back and re-evaluate how we are treating our bodies, what we are putting in them
and on them.
Essential Oils can be applied topically, inhaled or consumed internally. Due to the
potent nature of therapeutic grade essential oils, you must consult with a physician
if you are pregnant or are on certain medications which may be counteracted.
Always follow the directions on the bottle of the essential oil you are using.
Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils have in them the inherent properties to promote
overall wellness, restore health to the body and treat a variety of conditions.
Here is a short list of essential oils and how they can benefit you:
- Bergamot - Has a long history for oily and troubled skin
- Cedarwood - Can be used as a dietary supplement to maintain healthy
lung function*
- Cinnamon Bark - Promotes healthy cardiovascular and immune function and
acts as an antiseptic*
- Clove - A powerful antiseptic*
- Fennel - Supports feelings of well-being during the menstrual cycle*
- Frankincense - Contains skin healing properties* (priceless oil given to the baby Jesus)
- Ginger - Soothes, comforts and balances digestion*
- Grapefruit - Benefiicial for weight management*
- Jasmine - Beneficial for the skin and for balancing the feminine energy of the body*
- Juniper - Acts as a detoxifier and cleanser; Beneficial to the skin and supportive of
the urinary system*
- Lavender - Reduces cholesterol; Anti-histamine; Positive effects on eczema*
- Myrrh - Supports damaged skin, has a positive effect on the hypothalamus and
pituitary glands (also noted in the Bible)
- Orange - A powerful antioxidant that aids in maintaining normal cellular regeneration*
- Oregano - Supports the respiratory system*
- Peppermint - Natural pain blocker/anti-inflammatory; Curbs appetite; Stimulates scalp
to encourage hair growth*
- Thyme - Supportive of the immune, respiratory, digestive and nervous systems*
I could list many other essential oils and their benefits but space does not permit.
Of course, I have to say that the FDA has not evaluated any of these statments.
HOWEVER, there are thousands if not millions of individuals that have benefited from the
use of therapeutic grade essential oils, including myself. Just know that you don't alwyas have
to take pharmaceutical drugs and chemically based products if you don't want to. You have a
choice. That's what's so beautiful about being an American...choices
Organizing for Women
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By: Holly Boyd
As a Professional Organizer, I find that one of the biggest
organizational challenges
facing women today is “letting go”. This goes for several areas of our
lives.
Whether it’s dozens of
10 year old magazines, old Christmas cards, clothes you can’t
fit into (and are
out of style anyway) or just things that “I might need later” we have
a hard
time letting go. This makes it very
difficult for us to be confident (or even
comfortable) in our own homes.
In America we have
a terrible tendency to connect TRUE peace, our true joy and
confidence with our
things. All your stuff can be taken
away in a day by a flood or
a bad economy.
Your TRUE peace, joy and confidence come from knowing your
purpose, and
can’t be taken away.
As a Christian Professional Organizer I also find a lot of clutter with
pain, hurts and
events of the past – it causes the same kind of clutter in our
lives only on a deeper
level that is carried with us no matter where we go, this
clutter we can’t escape.
Emotional baggage is just like extra
luggage at home, if we don’t get rid of some of
the old, we can’t fit in the
good stuff!
Why is it important in today’s society to be organized in your everyday
life?
Because we make daily
decisions that impact the rest of our lives, and the lives of
those we
love. When we are scattered in our
homes, scattered in our thoughts we
make poor choices. Sometimes we aren’t even paying
attention when we make a
choice!
Sure, science may call it cause and effect but quite frankly it is sowing
and
reaping and has been the law of the land since the beginning of time. It IS all about
getting what you
plant, more of what you plant, and getting it later than when you
planted
it.
When you choose to put your car keys in a different spot each time, you
CHOOSE to
get frustrated later.
When you choose to put bills down “wherever” you have made
a decision to
pay late fees later:
Aggravation, frustration, self doubt, incompetence…
same, more,
later.
It works the same for us as it does for little Susie or Johnny sitting in
front of the
television for hours at a time. Just like with the above, it may seem
okay in the
moment, but you will reap the harvest of self doubt, self pity and
depression LATER.
The
sole purpose of television commercials (don’t even get me started on the
programming!) is to make you feel bad about yourself until you buy what they are
selling.
The seeds of “you are not
good enough” with these unrealistic expectations take root
deep within. And the harvest is… the most
prescriptions for antidepressants in this
Country, mostly for women.
My motto is purposeful placement – of everything from my car keys to my
mail to my
papers to my thoughts and even to my family. And it should be the mantra of every
woman because as women we are responsible (whether we do it on purpose or not)
of
raising the next generation.
This is our PURPOSE.
Being more purposeful means thinking
before we put something down,
thinking about what we say, do and watch on television.
It even means being more thoughtful in
what we think about! Yes,
purposeful placement
of everything!
So my top organizational tips for women would be these:
- Get some help. If
you have children in your home that don’t have set chores you
are doing them a
disservice. You are taking away
their confidence by not giving
them their purpose in the family. And on a side note, it raises
spoiled brats.
- Use a planner. These are the best tools to aid in
confidence, because you won’t
miss appointments or deadlines! And even better is that you get to
look back -
and look ahead - to see where you are spending your time! Is your time reflective
of what you say is
important to you?
- Have a home for everything in your home (or office) – whether you are
mother of a
16 year old, the President of a company, or both, you don’t want to
come off like
you don’t know what is going on. Anything scattered is worth very
little. Even a
million dollars
thrown in the wind doesn’t equal much! All papers are best suited to
be
filed. Keep keys in same spot every
time. Have a system in place for
mail and
keep only what you need.
If you haven’t used (or worn) it in the last year, chances
are you
won’t. And there are others who may
never be able to have if you don’t
donate.
- However, the biggest key to organizing your home or your family is
this knowledge:
You have a purpose because you were created by a very purposeful
Designer. You
are not important by
how much temporary stuff you have.
As a Christian
Professional Organizer I know of what I speak, I have
lived it both ways. By
understanding that my purpose is to glorify God by serving you I don’t fall prey
to
the targeted marketing that tells me I am of little value after a certain
age. And
neither should
you!
